Hi Jen

I queried the pass mark for ELFS with Pearson a few weeks ago and was directed to these documents, attached.

Best wishes

CAUTION: This email originated from outside of CWA. Do not click links or open attachments unless you recognise the sender and know the content is safe.

Also, does everyone realise that for Maths you have to start all candidates at the same time so you have to hold late candidates and start them with the calculator paper at the same time as everyone else and give them the non-calculator paper to follow on. This was in the webinar training but didn't make it to the ICE book. Pearson have confirmed to me that the training is correct and they will update the ICE booklet accordingly.

And another thing - we ran Entry level 2 exams last week and the staff have started to mark them only to discover there is no pass mark in the mark scheme. When we queried this, Pearson said it will be roughly 20 but they will confirm in January !!!

Not acceptable in my book

Hi Tracey,

I feel your pain! I have been in post since September and so this is my first experience of FSkills and I've found it all really confusing!

I called Pearson after our first sittings for Maths and was told that this is how they run their FSkills Maths, so I would be really interested to see how they respond to your email - if you wouldn't mind sharing when they come back to you?

This week we have run English Reading Levels 1 and 2 and it's been a bit more straight forward as each sitting has had the same version of the paper.

We've only had a very small cohort sitting in this first round so I'm dreading the bigger numbers with multiple versions of papers being issued for Maths!

Thanks,

Sofie.

Subject: Pearson Functional Skills Papers

Hello

We've recently switched from City & Guilds to Pearson for our Functional skills exams and are having the following issues with how we are receiving the exam papers.

• Exam papers being ordered for different times (on the same day) but all students are on the one attendance list and papers are being packed together.

• Exam papers booked for the same date and time but different versions of the same level paper being issued. As students are expected to sit a certain version this gives a greater chance of a student being given the incorrect version especially if all students are sitting in the same room at the same time.

• For a recent FS Maths exam we had 4 different versions of the exam paper (two for the non-calculator and 2 for the calculator exam).

• Papers of the same version and level are being sent to us in different coloured packaging which is confusing as different versions should be packed in the same colour.

Is this normal for Pearson? I have emailed them my concerns so I await a response.

Regards

Tracy McCaughey
