It's from an economic perspective and therefore a bit (a lot) about the bottom line -
maximising profits / minimising losses by having different perspectives. Plus the
term 'storytellers' seems a splendidly patronising term for trained linguists. But
still, perhaps a useful addition to the mix of rationales for our field.
