Hello Stanislav,
Thanks so much for the references. We will look into them. Distributed/embodied cognition may be of particular relevance/interest.
All the best,
James.

Subject: Re: design representation
Hello David,
This is an important topic. I shall look forward to your work.
For me, the most pertinent relevant theme is the inability of human designers, and their human cognition, to cope with the complexity of lived worlds and all of their inhabitants.
Hence, much of my work looks at distributed/external/shared/multiplicitous cognition and representation, including data, modelling, simulation and AI.
For example:
Seeing design challenges from the point of view of nonhumans, such as animals:

Using model-based representation to support design imagination:

Observing distributed cognition and creativity in action over time:

Experiencing and designing in place:
https://www.academia.edu/37121844/Mould_Racing_or_Ecological_Design_through_Located_Data_Games
Overcoming social boundaries to imagination through interactive representations:

There is more, on robots, education, etc. But I better stop now...
Hope this is useful.
Good luck with the book,
Stanislav
