Aurelie, it's pretty standard for rhinos to be like tapirs and horses; all of them have 18 thoracic vertebrae and 18 pairs of ribs. Perissodactyls generally have more thoracics than artiodactyls or other orders. There are excellent photographs of good black rhino skeletal mounts online; just Google "rhinoceros skeleton image" and it will pull both bad old inaccurate mounts and good ones -- you'll know the difference instantly I am sure. -- Deb Bennett

Subject: [ZOOARCH] Diceros bicornis thoracic vertebrae
Dear all,
Would anyone know how many thoracic vertebrae a black rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis) has? and sohow many pairs of ribs?
Many thanks,
Aurelie.
