Hello colleagues and friends,
*COME SEE CATHY DON HER LEATHER TROUSERS AND SING FOLK-POP WITH GUITARIST
DAVE FOR LOVE! FUND-RAISING GIGS* ON Friday 9th and Saturday 10th August
2019, 2-3pm at The Wee Pub, Edinburgh! 94-96 Grassmarket, Edinburgh EH1 2JR
We are *fightin’ for love* and fundraising for V*alsero, a famous
pro-democracy Cameroonian rapper* who makes music that asks for *human
rights for the people of Cameroon*. He has been *illegally detained in
prison *since being arbitrarily arrested for passing by the same part of
town as a *peaceful pro-democracy protest*. He is facing serious charges,
some of which carry the *death penalty*. And what’s more….he is *married to
my old friend* and next door neighbour from university!

*Remember that moment when you met your beloved, how your lip quivered at
their very sight and how the blood rushed warm through your veins knowing
that you were enveloped in a beautiful lasting love?*
*This is what happened to one of my oldest friends when she met Valsero*,
and now they got *married* whilst he is being held *behind bars*, how
romantic is that! They are cruelly separated as he is from his *7-year old
daughter*. Importantly, the situation denies Cameroon and the
French-speaking world a top musician and voice of the people who raises
awareness of their plight and spreads hope through the raps and songs he
creates!
That’s why *CATHY* and *DAVE* are *(folk) rockin’ out and FIGHTING FOR LOVE
as part of the Edinburgh Festival *and asking for your support by coming to
hear us and putting money in our hats! *We sing, play flute and guitar and
showcase a wide range of folk music from Scotland, Ireland, Iceland and pop
songs from all over the place!*
*About our music:*
We are an Edinburgh-based singer/flute and guitarist duo playing an
eclectic range of folk, pop and jazz music from hundreds of year ago to
now! We sing in English, Gaelic, Icelandic and Saami! We play at open mics
and do charity gigs around our city. We have played for people suffering
homelessness, older people experiencing Dementia and loneliness, and
psychiatric hospital patients.

*Cathy* is a folk-jazz singer and flute player with a BA Music. She used to
work for Radio 3, but now uses the other side of her brain in health and
international development research. She has been involved in community folk
music projects in Scotland, Finland, Iceland, Belarus and Germany.
*Dave* is a seasoned rock and acoustic guitarist, who performs regular gigs
with four bands in Edinburgh. Although in possession of a hat and cool
shades, he enjoys playing a lighter repertoire with Cathy.
Thank you so much!
