The Guildhall School of Music & Drama are hosting two events coming up that may be of interest to this list.
On Thursday the 9th of May, we are hosting a session dedicated to the "Song in the Novel", an afternoon examining how novelists have attempted to represent music on the page. At 2.45pm, Sir Barry Ife will present on the topic of "(Dis)embodied singers in Cervantes", and proposes that Cervantes was fascinated by the challenge of ‘writing singing’. On Friday the 21st of June, we will then be hosting an evening lecture-recital on the topic of the beginnings of recorded music in Spain, in which Professor Eva Moreda (University of Glasgow) and Ricardo Gosalbo (Guildhall School) will look back at the beginnings of commercial recorded music in Spain, both in the hands of multinationals such as Gramophone and Victor, and small-scale local businesses (the so-called ‘gabinetes fonográficos’) which recorded on wax cylinders. Both events are free to attend, and we hope to welcome you to the Guildhall School soon.
Kind regards,
Shona Dale
