Dear Lars,
As an interior design professor at Izmir University of Economics, Izmi,
Turkey, I have been conducting Transportation Interiors Studio in which we
are mostly working on medium and large sized boat interiors. It is a junior
year course and it is an option of the second semester compulsory junior
interior design studio. So basically students who are planning to work in
nautical/marine design after graduation are preferring this course. I have
worked as a visiting research fellow in the Department of Naval
Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering at University of Strathclyde,
Glasgow UK for a year (2017-2018). While I was there I was conducting
research on the affects of emotional design, wellness, human factors,
ergonomics and anthropocentric in mega-yacht design. In our program we are
also trying to create a connection with the Department of Industrial Design
especially for the Yacht Design issue. At the moment our interaction is
mostly through workshops.
Besides, we are also offering a graduate program (non-thesis) as Yacht
Design. It is an interdisciplinary program in which we accept students from
both engineering and design backgrounds. Students graduated from
engineering programs (mostly marine engineering and/or naval architecture)
are offered design oriented courses mostly whereas students with design
backgrounds are taking basic marine engineering courses in order to
understand the dynamics of the issue. For sure the program is not offering
an engineering degree and its scope is limited with small, medium and large
size yachts. The director of this program is now conducting a 5 meters
sailing boat construction together with the yacht design students in our
own workshop space. So I can say that we also have some level of experience
on boat construction process.
I don't know how much I/we can offer for your request but we are also
conducting research on the field which might be interesting for you. In
case you are interested please contact me from [log in to unmask] or
[log in to unmask] It will be a pleasure for me if there is anything
that I can help.
Regards,
