The whole JVAP( volume 6 2007 issue 2,) edition was related to experiential knowledge and the contents are a series of articles generated from a conference set up by the Experiential Knowledge interest group of DRS. Many refer to embodiment. I thought that Mark Johnson’s keynote and follow up article was a particularly significant contribution making clear, from a philosophical perspective, a position on embodiment
Mark Johnson (2007) ‘The stone that was cast out shall become the cornerstone’: the bodily aesthetics of human meaning, Journal of Visual Art Practice, 6:2, 89-103, DOI: 10.1386/jvap.6.2.89_1<https://doi.org/10.1386/jvap.6.2.89_1>
Abstract
Aesthetics concerns the origin of human meaning in our bodily engagement with our physical, social, and cultural environments. Our capacity for making sense of anything emerges from felt patterns of bodily perception and movement, and this embodiedunderstanding provides the basis for all of our imaginative acts of abstract thought and creativity. Art is thus the consummation of our human drive to make meaning.

More on this (the philosophical, phenomenological perspective) I would certainly recommend "
The Embodied Mind: Cognitive Science and Human Experience",
Eleanor Rosch, Evan Thompson y Francisco Varela, 1991
by the Chilean philosopher and cognitive scientist Francisco Varela. It is also a work that tries in a way to mediate between the Oriental philosophical vision (also quoted by Ken Friedman in his email) and Western cognitivism. Merleau-Ponty was the main Western source of inspiration for Varela.
And of course, Lakoff and Johnson's "Metaphors We Live By", capital text on the relevance of embodied metaphors in our processing of everyday's knowledge.

my understanding on embodiment come from phenomenological inquiry, especially from Merleau-Ponty.

What is EMBODIMENT and what is not?
Sorry to ask this question. I am totally confused as I find this term
is being used in many different ways.
Thanks
