Ken and all,
Re: ' David ... asked for complementarity, that is, he requested someone to BALANCE him by being DIFFERENT.'
One of the weaknesses of the PhD-design list has been its lack of balance between subject areas.
In terms of the design research field as a whole, the proportions of design research disciplines are roughly:
50% - Technical design research disciplines (those design research fields that require strong maths)
35% - New design research disciplines (e.g. research in education program design, research social program design, business process design, political system design etc)
15% - Art and Design disciplines plus architecture
David's background represents the Art and Design disciplines.
It would seem important to have a list co-owner alongside him that represents the mathematically-grounded design disciplines and the other design research disciplines that are not from Art and Design
Of course, all other things being equali, preferably a female list owner to balance gender.
Best wishes,
Terence
