https://www.jobs.nhs.uk/xi/vacancy/?vac_ref=915494173
Closing date: 27/03/2019
The department of clinical biochemistry operates a hub (Royal London) and spoke (Barts, Whipps Cross and Newham) model, processing in excess of 14 million routine chemistry and immunoassay tests and 135,000 specialist tests including vitamin and trace element analysis, toxicology, specialist endocrinology and haematological oncology investigations. The specialist sections include LC-MS/MS, HPLC, atomic absorption and capillary electrophoresis. In 2017 we moved to a single LIMS across all sites and by the end of 2019 will have completed the modernisation of our Roche automated analysers.
We are looking for a dynamic and ambitious clinical scientist to join us in further developing the service, with experience in at least one of our specialist areas. You must be state registered with the Health Care Professions Council as a Clinical Scientist (Clinical Biochemistry), hold part 1 of the FRCPath by examination, or equivalent. A track record of research and development is essential; a PhD is desirable. You will be based at the Royal London hub with occasional travel to the spoke sites as required.
Key responsibilities include:
· participation in the Duty Biochemist rota, providing interpretation of results and advice on investigations to medical staff and other service users
· validation and implementation of new methods and assays, overseeing their introduction into routine clinical use
· undertaking and publishing research
· engaging in quality improvement projects
· supervising STPs
