Dear Colleagues
Our paediatric colleagues are in the habit of taking all the baseline investigations such as TFTs and coeliac screens very early on (within a few hours) when a child presents with DM /DKA. This is because they want to minimise venepuncture and move to capillary testing ASAP. Since the beginning of february we have seen 2 children with low TSH, fT4 (around 4-5) , fT3 (around 2-3)which have resolved over several days.
I appreciate that they are taking them when the children are sick but what is puzzling me slightly is that our Cobas analysers have been in place for over a year and I don't recall seeing this before. We have not yet moved to the new fT4 formulation with enhanced biotin protection....
Is anyone else seeing similar?
Regards
K Richmond
