Hi Jinan,
Thank you for your question. Not sure where you are going with it?
Metacognition usually means individuals thinking about their thoughts.
Some people can watch the thoughts as they occur in which case the watching happens at the same time but thinking about the experiences gained from watching happens after the thoughts. For u=others metacognition is a thinking about the memory of thoughts.
Is metacognition automatic or conscious? Depends on your philosophy or science.
In terms of scientific evidence to date, metacognition is automatic in its causality and then later conscious as an illusion that we made the choices to do it.
PS. BTW I'll be over your way in early Feb if you would like to meet up?
Best wishes,
Terence

Subject: Metacognition
Can anyone clarify what is metacognition? what is it exactly? Does it happen simultaneously along with cognition or is there a time gap? And does it happen as a conscious process or does it happen automatically?
Does it happen to everyone or does it happen due to some other factors? can it be developed if one does not have this ability?
