Dear Paul
We measure phytosterols (sitosterol and campesterol) in serum and plasma in Newcastle by GC-MS. Details about sample requirements etc are on our website https://secure.newcastlelaboratories.com/test-directory/test/Sitosterol-and-Campesterol-in-plasma
If concentrations of phytosterols are high enough, there will be interference in enzymatic assays for total cholesterol. In severe cases of phytosterolaemia we see around 1 - 2 mmol/L of phytosterols which could, in theory, cause a small increase in total cholesterol.
