Dog breeding springs to mind, with "teacup" dogs and pugs for example...

Subject: Re: [ZOOARCH] Bioethics of breeding for extreme phenotype
An appeal to all Zooarchers: Can someone give me some guidance as to the literature on the “bioethics” of breeding for extreme phenotype in domesticated animals?
Examples would be: extreme bulging forehead (jibbah), bulging eyes, tiny muzzle in Arabian and other breeds of horses, similar type of “extreme head” in llamas, extreme muscularity in Quarter Horses (“halter type”), extremely long, thin neck in American Saddlebreds, extremes in head or body shape in dogs such as huge size in wolfhounds or extreme tininess in Yorkies. I want to contrast this, or perhaps find out that it is an extension, of the apparent general tendency for humans to breed domestic mammals that have juvenilized heads (although that doesn’t obviously explain the big/small extremes or the long skinny neck thing).
Thank you for any assistance you can give! – Deb Bennett
