Outstanding postdoctoral scientists wanted for cutting-edge HIV
epidemiological research at the Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI)

These posts will form part of a larger cutting-edge research initiative
that aims to drive back the HIV epidemic and its negative consequences in
the communities in sub-Saharan Africa hardest hit by the epidemic.
The successful candidates will join Professor Tanser’s research group and
will be supervised by scientists who are leaders in their respective fields
and who have access to a large international network of collaborators. The
incumbents will be part of an outstanding multi-disciplinary team of
statisticians, epidemiologists, mathematical modellers, social scientists,
clinical trialists, bioinformaticians and other experts from diverse fields
to answer the most pressing problems in HIV today. Successful candidates
will receive a generous tax-free stipend for two years and be afforded
numerous opportunities and support to launch their own independent research
careers through the attainment of fellowship funding.
Candidates will be based at our state-of-the-art laboratories in the
beautiful city of Durban, which is a sub-tropical city on the Indian Ocean
coast of South Africa.
The minimum qualifications and experience required for these research posts
are:
- PhD in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Econometrics,
Mathematical Modelling, Spatial Analytics or a closely related quantitative
field
- Several high quality publications as first author
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team
