If you had a look at the responses to date, you would see that despite the small numbers, the Lack of tolerance for a wide range of views in mailing list discussions’ is the top pick of current issues facing this list.
So having ‘an open discussion’ would, logically, merely reinforce this identified lack of tolerance. Furthermore, one would need to question to whom would such a discussion ‘be more beneficial’? Certainly not those whose voices are routinely dismissed or silenced by adversarial banter such as is common on this list.
