S Prativadi:
Thank you!
If I understand you, in your mind truth is the desirable ideal. That is certainly a possible definition, but it is not very close to what I intended which was the dictionary definition:
truth -- the quality or state of being true.
• that which is true or in accordance with fact or reality.
• a fact or belief that is accepted as true
You also emphasized goodness:
>That which is good for all beings in the ultimate sense is truth.
I am among those who believe there is such a thing as "goodness for all beings." That good is generally seen as having two possible sources: people or god. Either way, the concept of truth as the ideal good is pointing toward metaphysics / theology and in proposing that we seek truth on the DESIGN list I was aiming slightly lower than that. If this were a theology list your approach to truth would be the right focus. If you want to engage with a nice recent discussion of natural theology I noted NT. Wright's 2018 Gifford lectures in my initial post. They are excellent and address this point very thoughtfully.
I was just hoping we could focus on truth as describing reality at various levels from personal to universal. My aim for this list was more existential than ideal.
Thanks again!
