Thanks for your post. You wrote that "the idea that inanimate objects and in particular graphic designs do things to people" is a magical belief. Usually I find myself agreeing with the point of view the objects are not agents. However, today I read in the news that the WTO has upheld Australia's policy requiring plain packaging for cigarettes. Here's a link to the story https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-44652049
Presumably they think that there is some connection between cigarette packaging and public health outcomes. What is it and how does it work?
