of course you can use that function for any kind of data to check sample homogeneity. Here is an older example using the raw fMRI data:

In principle this should also work for the output of the 1st level analysis. However, as for VBM data the indication of potential outliers does not necessarily mean that you have to remove these data, but carefully check the most deviating data for potential issues with preprocessing, occurrence of artefacts etc.
