Hi All,
I’m having trouble categorising my studies in order to know which CASP tool to use to appraise the quality of the study. I have a few studies I can’t easily categorise.
I have a three studies that have cases (children with ASD) but no controls and typically use more qualitative data than quantitative. The studies do not evaluate interventions and are not RCTs. They are descriptive cross-sectional studies. Do you have a tool that would be suited to appraising these studies?
I also have one study that looks at age differences but the participants are typically developing. The method used is qualitative. Would you recommend using the qualitative tool or the case-control due to having a comparator?
Finally, I have a lot of studies that i think are case-control studies but i'm not sure if i'm mistaken as it's more case-case than control at times. For example, some studies look at children with ASD and compare them to typically developing children or their typically developing sibling. They rely on parental response (interview or validated measures) and look for differences. Would I be correct to classify this as a Case-Control study?
I've never done a quality appraisal before so am finding this very difficult but have limited time to review 30 studies. I hope this makes sense and thank you in advance for reviewing my query.
