REGISTRATION OPEN!
A workshop on the use of musical borrowing and musical sources will take place during the Claude Debussy in 2018: a Centenary Celebration conference held at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester. The event is aimed at student composers and will include formal composition presentations, a session on musical sources, and a participatory composition workshop. Composers Elspeth Brooke, Mark Dyer, Bruno Heinen, Núria Bonet will discuss the use of musical borrowing in their own practice. This will be followed by a research skills session on working with original musical sources, led by experts on musical sources and Debussy.
The afternoon session will consist of a composition workshop with members from The House of Bedlam Ensemble, during which participants will be able to apply relevant skills in a practical setting. This will be an opportunity to workshop new pieces or work-in-progress which involve musical borrowing with performers, composers and academics. Participants will be encouraged to broaden their approach to musical borrowing, develop potential projects and produce compositional sketches.
