'I am currently a senior attending Bronxdale High School in New York, United States who is working on an end-of-the-year Capstone project on the effects poverty and income inequality. I’ve studied some of your highly informative articles in which I understand that you demonstrated a great knowledge on various community studies and on the correlation between social classes and mental illness. Therefore, how does feeling like you are of a lower social class affect someone mentally and socially? Being that there are definitely some damaging effects of classism, do you think it is possible to distinguish classism without becoming a communist nation? How so or why not?'
The final half-sentence gives some idea of the intellectual climate in at least one High School. One or two colleagues returning from the States have said that to be regarded as a Marxist in the USA you only have to drop the word class.
