Dear All,
While I urged in the past for publication of the newsletter on the website, I think the paper copies are essential. You cannot beat something to read on the bus - when you don't have a smart phone - of course. Even compared with reading from a tablet or laptop, a booklet is much better.

There may be a few oldies [I am] who find paper easier to read than screen. Cost is one thing; assuming permanent access at any time is another. Not everyone has constant internet access. When the power goes off [as it will under governments concerned with nothing but their elites' wealth], stuff gets lost. Where are my pre-digitisation articles, not just the publications? How to refer to them? If you think Radstats has a longer significance reach than the current edition, don't jump to facile conclusions. I've just been office clearing [half a century of research papers and lecture notes, books and journals] and sent a colleague here an early Radstats booklet on NHS costs, 1970s era, because it has an uncanny resonance with current events. Stuff we need to be reminded of by seeing hard copy on the shelf when we don't know searching the internet might find something, when we comment and try to influence policy etc.
John.

Having looked at the accounts I think it is time Radstats moved into the twenty first century and abandoned paper.
The cost of producing a paper publication far exceed the benefits produced. It's hard to think that anyone pays their subs because they just want the magasine, or because they want it on paper before it is on line.
