Dear Colleagues,
We have a few places left on our HEA performance assessment day on 27th Feb if anyone would like to join us (details below).
HEFCE/ HEA: Calibrating Standards in Music Higher Education Performance Assessment
As you may be aware HEFCE are developing a project on degree standards, running from 2016 to 2021. HEFCE have contracted the Higher Education Academy (HEA) to work across all four nations to facilitate a sector-owned development process focusing on the professional development for external examiners.
As part of the project, you are invited to join the RNCM, in association with Conservatoires UK and the HEA, to explore different approaches to providing UK-wide training for external examiners and for the calibration of academic standards. Lunch will be provided and a contribution to travel expenses will be made available to attendees.
Date:
Tuesday 27 February, 10 am to 4 pm
Venue:
Royal Northern College of Music,
124 Oxford Rd,
Manchester, M13 9RD
This day-long event, for up to 35 participants, will involve discussion, debate and workshop activity exploring the challenges of performance assessment in undergraduate music degree examination. The day will aim to raise awareness of any different standards for judging performance across providers of music education and across different instruments, to build greater consistency in the judgement of performance across providers of music education and across different instruments and ensemble types, to debate issues in judgement of music performance, and to create the conditions for future calibration in the field of music higher education.
Details of how to Apply:
To apply to participate in the event, you need to be (or have been) an external examiner in music higher education (conservatoire or University based), with a remit that includes overseeing performance assessment. To apply, please send an email to Deborah Williams ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>), with your Name, Affiliation and Brief detail of experience of external examination. Places will be allocated to ensure a representative spread from across the sector, on a first come first served basis.
Please do open this invitation to other members of staff at your institution with External Examining experience.
Kind regards
Deborah Williams
