Research Assistant
Department of Oncology, Weatherall Institute for Molecular Medicine, Headington, Oxford.
Grade 6: £28,098 - £33,518 p.a.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Assistant, who will be based at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, reporting to Professor Peter McHugh. You will be part of a dynamic and ambitious research group studying DNA repair focusing on the structure and function of a large multiprotein complex involved in human DNA repair, integrating structural biology with biochemistry and cell biology.
Showing a high level of organisation and independence, you will assist with the day-to-day running of several aspects of the lab and will offer assistance in operating the eukaryotic expression and protein purification platform (from E.coli, yeast, insect and mammalian cells).
A good degree in biochemistry or closely related field is essential, together with familiarity with general molecular biology techniques. Some experience in cloning, expression and protein purification systems is also essential. Knowledge of DNA repair and experience in mammalian and/or insect tissue culture, biophysical techniques and structural biology would be advantageous
This is a full-time post, offered for 2 years in the first instance.
