Thanx, everyone for pointers!
A quick summing up:
1) Etymology is interesting, especially if old cultures had insights we don’t. (My conclusion in this case, is that the Ancient Greeks didn’t know so much more than we do.)
2) Language and images are recurring proposals for representation and communication of concepts. (If we take concepts in the general form and not discipline specific, agreed externalizations. In certain industries ”concepts” are well-defined)
3) I have also received offline suggestions concerning advancements in psychology and brain studies. This has interested me for while. Apparently there is a lot of well established knowledge concerning creativity, from these fields. (For instance that brainstorming is a poor technique for creating ideas in groups). My (over?)simplified understanding is that our ideas, and perhaps also concepts, are born in what is called the incubation. This takes place in the frontal lobe, which is not part of our consciousness and is not immediately open to introspection. (Freud worked on this). The ideas are then brought to ”our" conscious attention in language and vision systems, located more in the middle of the brain. That’s when we are ”aware” of them. (The Eureka moment)
Our frustrations with ”capturing” our ideas on paper or in text, could, in part, be the perceived gap between the ideas in the frontal lobe system and the representation we creative in the image or language system. (The other part of the frustration is, of course, discovering that the idea doesn’t work.)
That would also explain why ”concept” is such an alluring phenomena. (You could even throw Wittgenstein on it.)
I connect this difficulty with the large interest in narratives in design and innovation today. There seems to be compelling arguments/experiences of narratives being (in comparison) an effective way to share and explore concepts.
There are appear to be more to be learnt from psychology and brain studies, especially when looking at what is written today in trade press and put forward in ”professional" education etc? (The need for transformative learning, understanding of implicit and procedural memories, the need for time and detachment during incubation, etc etc.)
Anyway; thanx again.

Dear friends,
There are several design cultures.
On the side of a more technical design culture, inclined towards
engineering, I would follow the suggestion of Terence Love: French, M. J.
(1971) Engineering Design: The Conceptual Stage, Heinmann Educational
On the side of a more speculative one, inclined toward arts and humanities,
I suggest the work of Fiona Raby and Anthony Dunne. In this direction, I
wrote the article “Design as Speculation” for Design Philosophy Papers, in
which I work with the concepts of “concept” and “conceptual design”. Here
you can find the article

Best,
Carlo
PS: As Guy Keulemans stated, Deleuze e Guattari are very inspiring about
this subject. Deleuze pronounced an interesting speech for the students of
cinema, at FEMIS, in 1987: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OyuMJMrCRw. At
the beginning, he affirms something like that:
*philosophy is a discipline that creates and invents as the others. It
creates or invents concepts… *
