I have been following this thread with great interest but not thinking of contributing. I forgot! Have actually written some papers on this and devoted some chapters to this in books I have written. Most are difficult to find or out of print, but they might prove interesting.
I tend to slice the cake, as it were, differently, and use different ways of categorising drawings, sketches etc. Here are some references that might be interesting.
