Hi Bill,

The poem uses snippets of headlines and stories that I found in online
new sources, Australian and overseas (hence, tories and conservative),
on one of the days near when the Macklemore guy was scheduled to sing
at the NRL grand final - late Sept from memory. Not sure I remember
who 'crime boy' is, it was simply a headline or story. The Macklemore
song was Same Love, which was certainly in all the news at the time.
The go harder thing was taken from this: "Frances Abbott has doubled
down on her support for the 'yes' campaign in defiance of her dad,
urging rapper Macklemore to "go harder" in an Instagram post on
Thursday afternoon."

Yes, I've seen the attempts to attack migrants, the working class,
so-called bogans as the boogie people in all this. You're right, it
doesn't really make sense. There's always someone to blame. I blame
politicians. They're the ones who foisted this on us.

But, as someone suggested, maybe with the 'yes' vote and the Socceroos
win tonight, that 15th November could become Australia Day. It's no
more an outlandish suggestion than any other but of course has
Buckleys.

I want to be more heartened than I am but the whole thing was very
wearing, especially for us. I think I was feeling simply tired of
having my life spread out in public every day. I actually found myself
withdrawing from being out (so to speak) and about. Anyway, let's see
what is next.

Thanks,
Jill

Well, I thought it was heartening, Jill, despite having no time for
the
Libs’ gambit and hating the unnecessary and predictable damage the
the
 plebescite discussion brought on.

Not sure what your poem is doing. Who might Crime Boy be? Turnperson?
Abbott? Perhaps I need to know more of the pop tune you reference?
Going
harder has been necessary in the face of predictable attacks.
Ironically
the No case has linked Muslims, Chinese, Lebanese and the like with
hard-ass Oz proles who want them to go ‘back home’.

Strange days indeed but at least there was not a Trump/Brexit -style
 backlash this time.
