Creating popular narratives of security.
Applications are invited for a three-year Leverhulme Magna Carta doctoral studentship beginning in January 2018.
The successful applicant will be able to explore methodological approaches combining speculative design and design fictions, together with techniques of screenwriting and dramatisation.
This interdisciplinary PhD by practice will involve producing a series of scripts for a TV drama, which challenges the traditional interpretation of everyday digital security scenarios and encourages the viewer to revisit assumptions about “deserving” and “undeserving” behaviours in the digital realm. The student will be developing dramatic provocations that encourage viewers to reflect upon issues of liberty, identity, privacy, agency and security in the digital era.
This Phd is at Royal Holloway, University of London, and is with both the Department of Media Arts and the Information Security Group.
