The School of Geosciences at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (UL Lafayette) invites applications for the position of Director in the rank of Full Professor, beginning August 1, 2018.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate should have a proven record of strong research and publications, leadership in academic settings, an ability to lead and advance a diverse group of accomplished teachers and scholars, excellent administrative and interpersonal skills, a proven ability to attract external funding, and an ability to teach geoscience courses at all levels and to mentor graduate students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
* Ph.D. in Geology, Environmental Science, or related field;
* Credentials commensurate with an appointment at the rank of Full Professor;
* A distinguished record of research, publications, and teaching, including student mentoring and supervision at the graduate level;
* A track record of developing successful, externally-funded research programs;
* A commitment to attracting and supporting a diverse faculty, staff, and student body;
* Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, and an ability to work openly, personably, transparently, and effectively with every constituency in the School, and with both internal and external stakeholders, including alumni.
Desired:
* Experience maintaining a strong research program while holding a full-time administrative position;
* Experience in assessment and curriculum development;
* Experience leading interdisciplinary research projects;
* Internationally recognized research program.
SALARY: Commensurate with experience.

The School of Geosciences resides within the University's Ray P. Authement College of Sciences. The School of Geosciences (http://geos.louisiana.edu/) houses the programs of Geology and Environmental Science, each offers B.S. and M.S. degrees. The Environmental Science program awards undergraduate degrees with concentrations in Soil and Water, Environmental Quality, and Geographic Information Science. The School is also experiencing growth, with a new M.S. program in Environmental Resource Sciences starting in Fall 2017, and six new tenure-track faculty hires since 2013. The School now includes 11 faculty members, four full time instructors, a research scientist, lab technician, and approximately 150 total undergraduate majors and 85 graduate students. With the University’s location in the center of the petroleum and environmental science industries, our primary focus areas are Energy and the Environment. The faculty is engaged in active research in these areas including interdisciplinary research across campus and with external entities. In the five years ending on December 2016, the faculty in the School published over 267 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and conference proceedings; awarded 127 B.S. degrees and 56 M.S. degrees; and was awarded $5,800,000 in external funding. The School is also an international leader in the AAPG’s Imperial Barrel Competition, with two first place teams in the international competition within the last 5 years (out of 120 schools).
The School is seeking an enthusiastic leader to guide and support all activities within the School, and to help grow the School of Geosciences and its Graduate Program.
