Administrator: Job Description
The Society for Music Analysis (SMA) is the United Kingdom’s national learned society for the disciplines of music theory and analysis. As a registered charity (no. 1168650), the SMA exists to promote analytical and theoretical knowledge about music, understood in the broadest possible sense, and is committed to advancing musical understanding across the education sector and in society as a whole.
The Society recently launched an ambitious strategy to expand its activities (see http://www.sma.ac.uk/about/strategy-2017/). We are looking for an Administrator to support the expansion of the society’s activities, who will work closely with the President, Trustees, Treasurer and Student Representatives.
Role Description
The Administrator will:
undertake the week-to-week administration of the Society;
organise and minute meetings of SMA Council and the Music Analysis Editorial Board;
manage applications to the Music Analysis Development Fund and for Student Travel Bursaries;
maintain an accurate record of charity documents;
represent the Society at our events (expenses will be covered by the Society), and provide administrative support as required;
manage memberships and member subscriptions to Music Analysis;
help to maintain the Society’s website.
Person Specification
The successful candidate will have:
excellent administrative skills;
a primary degree;
thorough familiarity with Word and Excel;
excellent interpersonal skills;
broad knowledge of the role of the arts and humanities in the university sector, or an eagerness to acquire such knowledge;
broad knowledge of the role of an educational charity, or an eagerness to acquire such knowledge.
Terms of the Post:
The post is tenable for two years in the first instance, with the possibility of renewal, and comes with an honorarium of £3,000 per annum.
