Hi Christine and Robbie,
I may have missed something obvious but I could not see any links to the works mentioned in the email request?
Sounds interesting and useful.
Go well
Susan

Dear list members
Some of you may be able to contribute to updating of this very useful annotated bibliography and some may simply find it useful to have.
As CAR is US based, currently the list is stronger on North America than other continents, so there may be more useful staff to add.

Subject: [CAR] PLEASE HELP ME COMPLETE OUR FIELD'S FIRST AND ONLY ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY OF BOOKS
To reproductive scholars everywhere from Robbie Davis-Floyd:
I am currently co-editing, with Melissa Cheyney, a book called Birth in Eight Cultures: A Cross-Cultural Investigation, to replace Jordan’s Birth in Four Cultures, which is still being used for teaching even though I last revised and updated it in 1993. For this new book, we are preparing a short chapter on the early history of the anthropologies of birth and reproduction. We don’t feel that we can include a comprehensive history that includes all major works to date, as there are so many of them—a real tribute to the growth of our field. Instead we are updating this Annotated Bibliography, which has been posted on the CAR website for some time now, yet not many have taken the time to add to it. To make this AB as thorough as possible for the sake of those trying to get started in this field, and for those who need to dig deeper, WE NEED YOUR HELP!
INSTRUCTIONS:
If you know scholars in this area who are not members of CAR or repronet, please forward this file to them with my accompanying email.
Please make AT LEAST ONE AND HOPEFULLY SEVERAL OR MANY ADDITIONS OR IMPROVEMENTS. ADD IN ANY MISSING BOOKS complete with full ref info and summaries. If you feel that some subfield is missing, please add it in along with the relevant books and their summaries.
Please CHECK YOUR OWN LISTINGS. If you feel your book(s) is not properly summarized, feel free to change the summary. If it is not there, PLEASE ADD IT in the appropriate category. Books only!
Please color or mark in Track Changes ANY AND ALL additions or changes you make so that I (Robbie) can see what you have added, as I will have to combine all additions into one master file, so obviously I need to be able to clearly see them.
Once you have finished your edits, please return the file to me with your initials at the end of the file name. THE DEADLINE IS JULY 30, 2017.
THIS IS A COLLECTIVE ENTERPRISE THAT WILL BE OF BENEFIT TO ALL SCHOLARS IN OUR ARENA; PLEASE DO YOUR PART TO MAKE IT AS COMPREHENSIVE AS POSSIBLE! Once I have received and incorporated all your additions, this AB will be published both in Birth in Eight Cultures (2018) and also again on the CAR website, where it can be easily updated and readily available to all.
My best to all,
Robbie Davis-Floyd
Senior Advisor to CAR
PS Have you ever been asked by a student, “Hi, I’m interested in X—what should I read?” I was asked that question, usually via email, so many times that I created this Annotated Bib, starting decades ago, so I would have a ready answer to it. But I was never satisfied with it, as I always realized that it was incomplete. This is my effort to complete it, with your help, and for the sake of your own students and other scholars in the field. Again, I hope for a response from each and every one of you—and soon!
