Actually, Marco, I did point it out in my first reply to this thread,
tactfully suggesting that the original inquirer might have been
unsuccessful in her internet searches because she was spelling it wrong.
While we're at it, this might be a good time to point out the difference
between "osteochondrosis" and "osteochondritis": according to the medical
dictionary, the suffix "-osis" means "a process, condition, or state,
usually abnormal"; vs. the suffix "-itis", which specifically means an
inflammation.
Wikipedia has a listing for "osteochondritis dissecans" but not one for
"osteochondrosis dissecans," noting, however, that some authors use
"osteochondrosis"; but apparently the name of the disease is
"osteochondritis dissecans". The medical dictionary (Mayo Clinic ed.)
gives the exact same definition for both terms, so in other words, even
veterinarians and M.D.'s don't distinguish and for us zooarchers, the
difference amounts to splitting hairs. Cheers -- Dr. Deb
