Applications are invited for a position within the field of Interaction Design at the Department of Design and Communication, University of Southern Denmark. The position is available from December 2017 or thereafter.
The Department of Design and Communication offers study programmes and comprises research within the areas of design culture, language and communication, business communication, IT product design, IT communication, tourism and library science.
The position will contribute to the interdisciplinary research centre SDU Design in Kolding that brings together researchers from the Faculties of Humanities and Social Sciences to develop new directions in design. We build on a strong tradition of practice-based research and close collaboration with external partners. The successful applicant will bring experience from interdisciplinary collaboration with researchers from adjacent fields, and will be able to combine theoretical and practice-based design research.
Applicants must demonstrate original and independent contributions to research in interaction design on an international level, and they should describe the research they aim to pursue. We are particularly interested in applicants with competence within Embodied Design of products and services on, for, or in close interaction with the human body. We explore how radical new materials and the proliferation of wearable devices are creating new possibilities for design in fields such as health care, industry, entertainment, sports, etc. with equal emphasis to minds and bodies.
Applicants must have a master degree within design, a PhD in interaction design plus additionally a minimum of 3 years of relevant research experience.
Teaching responsibilities for the position relates to the MSc programme IT Product Design. Applicants must demonstrate excellent teaching competencies in a studio-based practice and experience in supervising thesis students. Completion of a professional postgraduate teacher training is a requirement on the associate professor level.
Applicants who have demonstrated an ability to attract external research funding within the design field will be preferred.
