*Gaiety, Glitz and Glamour: Reawakening the “Silver Age” of
twentieth-century Operetta*

1906-1939: Cultural Transfer and Transformation* (GOLNY Project), funded by
the European Research Council, headed by Prof Derek B Scott (Leeds) and Dr
Anastasia Belina-Johnson (Royal College of Music). Supported by the Royal
Musical Association and the Institute of Musical Research.
We are warmly inviting proposals for 20 minute papers, 30-minute
lecture-recitals, poster presentations and performances on the topic of
twentieth-century operetta. Proposals may address, but are by no means
limited to:
- The term ‘German operetta’ and the social, cultural, and moral values
of the time in which these works were created.
- Audience reception of operetta from the German stage during 1905–1940.
- Adaptations made to operetta in its transfer from the German stage.
- New possibilities for operetta as the music enters the public domain
free from copyright restrictions.

Proposals of 300 words are to be sent via email by 30 June
2017 to Stephanie Jones ([log in to unmask]) and Melissa Gerber-Venter (
[log in to unmask]). Please include a working title of your
paper, as well as your full name and academic institution. Notification of
acceptance will be sent by 14 July 2017.
Registration is free, and lunch with refreshments will be provided.
Successful papers may be considered for publication as part of conference
proceedings, dependent on interest.
