I might add Barbara Kamler and Pat Thomson’s Helping doctoral students write: pedagogies for supervision. They have also written about writing abstracts, which they call ‘tiny texts’, providing a structure based on empirical analysis of abstracts published in the social sciences – the structure of the abstract then provides the structure for the journal article.
They’ve also written another book: Writing for peer reviewed journals: strategies for getting published, which is reviewed here (I‘ve not seen this one): http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/00220620.2013.823048?journalCode=cjeh20
you might also refer to Ass Professor Nick Hogwood’s blog: https://nickhop.wordpress.com/

> Thank you both for these informative and insightful posts. I think that they’re very helpful, and hope that I’m about to add one more thing that could be useful.
