Hi Ellen,
For a girl with a face covering, we ask a female invigilator or member of staff to take them all (usually only one or two) into our store room for an ID check before we start bringing students into the exam room.
For those with head coverings (many) I randomly pick three as they come into the Sports Hall reception area and ask that they be checked for earpieces, as per veils above. I explain that they are a random choice and why we are doing this, and have had no objections or complaints to date.
The invigilators did suspect an earpiece wearer during one exam a couple of years ago (head on the desk as she was writing), but I wasn't told about it until after the exam, when I suggested they could have asked her to wait behind to be checked.
Hope this helps.

Subject: Religious clothing
Good morning,
Just wondering if anyone has addressed the sensitive issue of religious clothing and potential malpractice in examinations? We had a Student who was wearing an earpiece under her hijab last year. She was disqualified from all her subjects by the exam boards.
Has anything like this happened in your centres and have you dealt with the issues?
Obviously I'm not questioning the wearing of religious clothing just the matter of malpractice.
Thanks,
Ellen
