They will get used to it, and word will get round.
So long as it is done discreetly and tactfully, and perhaps you should get the support of a manager on-scene to back you up for the first couple of times?

Thanks Sarah and Paul.
I did write a policy about it and put it in the Students diaries at the beginning of the year. This stated that the Students would be brought into a room and checked for earpieces before the exam by a female member of staff. I just don't think any of the Students would have read it. I'm unsure of the reception of this once we put it into practice and I also think its going to be a nightmare to implement.

Hi Ellen
We come across head coverings/religious clothing very rarely in our college, however we do cover it in our Examinations & Assessment Guide and state that the wearer will be taken aside and asked to show they are not concealing anything.

Subject: Religious clothing
Good morning,
Just wondering if anyone has addressed the sensitive issue of religious clothing and potential malpractice in examinations? We had a Student who was wearing an earpiece under her hijab last year. She was disqualified from all her subjects by the exam boards.
Has anything like this happened in your centres and have you dealt with the issues?
Obviously I'm not questioning the wearing of religious clothing just the matter of malpractice.
Thanks,
Ellen
