Hi Jon,
My worry in general is that complications from the interventions are not studied - and don't feature as an important part in systematic reviews?
For example NIDDM -type 2 diabetes - medications: I think it is negligent if people publish systematic reviews on NIDDM tablets without mentioning that low carb diet can actually reverse NIDDM and as such prevent the late complications from the disease, that develop over the years due to having NIDDM. None of these "glycaemic control" pills prevent the complications of suffering from NIDDM. http://bjgp.org/content/67/655/85
The same with vaccination studies, these studies never take into account the possible late complications. Most of the studies on side-effects from vaccines, compare vaccinated, with vaccinated cohorts - rather than proper research that compares with unvaccinated. I would have thought that Public Health, as professional epidemiologists, have done these kind of studies but they are not in the public domain? http://www.bmj.com/content/352/bmj.i867/rr-7
