Hi Phil,
There are some classic examples of translating to and from other languages, with the resulting mess. Here are two examples:
1) Blind Idiot
2) The vodka was good but the meat was bad
Both translated into Russian and back to English. A prize for the person who guesses the original English Phrases!
There are several examples of translation plagiarism I'm aware of, where academic papers in one language were copied and translated into another language - itself not a mean feat - then published as the translators own work. Russia and China being prone to this, due to little mixing with Western researchers. The moot question being should we give some credit for the translation, even if the work (ideas, concepts, etc) are stolen. Translation plagiarism is probably as hard to find as a bespoke essay mill, because text searches of submitted work won't have a target if the original is in a different tongue.
