Hello
Derbyshire Libraries sits within Libraries and Heritage section and the Economy, Transport and Communities department of the Council. The Libraries and Heritage department consists of all libraries, the Derbyshire Record Office, Arts Team, and Buxton museum.
There is a dedicated Local Studies Library which is housed in the same building as the Record Office at Matlock and there are Local studies collections in all 46 libraries.
The size and scale of these collections varies according to the size of the library. There are Local Studies librarians based at key sites across the county - as well as at the Local Studies library in Matlock, there are Local Studies Librarians employed at Chesterfield, Ilkeston and Buxton Library. This spread of staff allows librarians at each location to cover 'their' area of the county, although all librarians have a county wide remit.
If you would like any more detailed information, please let me know
Thanks
Susie Crowley

Subject: Local Authority Local Studies Collections
Hi All,
I'm writing a report on the impact on local studies collections and their location within or outside of local authorities, and I wondered if list members would mind helping me compile a brief survey of existing collections (it isn't really a big enough survey for a surveymonkey etc). In the south-west we have an interesting mix of collections which are in the local authority and within library services, within the local authority and within archive or museum services, or those which are now part of commissioned charities or companies external to but commissioned by the local authority, and I'd like to see how the pattern spreads across the rest of the country.
I'm interested in local authority collections only, not privately held libraries, and I would like to know where within your local authority you sit (Libraries directorate, Heritage, Education etc) or if you have been spun-out into a commissioned service, be that trust, mutual, charity or whatever. Please reply off list.
Many thanks for your help
