Dear Colleagues
The University of Southampton is looking for an organisation or individual to help us with a quick evaluation of our paper sheet 19th and 20th century map collection held in the Hartley Library. We are looking to carry out this evaluation before the end of March.
The maps were collected by the Geography Department and supported teaching and research for many years. There is extensive coverage of the UK and world mapping with a large Foreign and Commonwealth component. The map collection is held in 270 drawers and probably extends to about 30,000 paper sheets.
Details of individual UK map sheets are held at: http://library.soton.ac.uk/mapping/uk . Map scales are only partially available for European, African, Asian, American, Australasia, Polar and world maps at: http://library.soton.ac.uk/mapping/home .
The Library wishes to evaluate the collection in relation to:
1 – rarity of sheets
2. – holding in relation other UK libraries
If you would like to speak further about the proposed evaluation, could you please contact Julian Ball [log in to unmask] or telephone 02380 598730
With thanks
Julian Ball
