Hi Jinan,
Firstly, it was a pleasure to meet you earlier this month in Guhawati, and once again thanks for your excellent keynote.
I wholeheartedly agree with your position about experience and I personally felt that how you expressed notions of 'play' as critical to self-formation with and through the world (forgive me, if I am expressing your position in a clumsy manner)
My reading of text such as Wendt & Dourish (from memory) suggest that they position cognitive embodiment in very similar ways to I.e that there is no separation between doing and thinking. That they are one in the same through an engagement with the world as opposed to a think/ do; think/ do etc model traditionally associated with cognition.
I think through text one can understand the concept of embodied/ experiential knowledge, in the sense that I learn something from your written reply, which is very different to the reader 'understanding' my experience of typing this reply, in bed, at an absurd hour to be awake on a Saturday morning, with clumsy big fingers on my iPhone, worrying to myself that I may have missed your point etc. Which of course they can't fully.
Anyway- I think outside of suggesting to Jude that he should definitely 'experience' your thinking on the subject, as I definitely found them to enhance my own thoughts on 'experience'.
Other sources, I have found useful as a designer, seeking to better understand notions of experience are:
Wright & McCarthy: Experience-centred Design:

Marc Hassenzahl: Experience Design: technology for all the right reasons.

Again, hopes this helps/ adds value.
Thanks Terence

I find some of this self contradicting.
One is about embodied knowledge and the other is the usage 'knowing by being'
I don't understand how through reading one can 'understand' embodied
knowledge.
I think the problem arises when we insist on understanding everything
in terms of language and to bring all experience and may be even
knowledge in to the framework of language.
Body 'knows' with out being mediated by language. Body engages and
learns directly with out the help of conscious 'knowledge.
When one 'learns' to cycle the cycle teaches to cycle with out any so
called knowledge. There is a dialogue that happens between the
'learner' and the cycle and the learner undergo transformation to be
able to cycle. No theory, no concepts in this dialogue!
As long as the mind/ language is coming in between the person and the
world embodied knowledge is an idea created in the mind.
The term 'experiential learning' gives away what is really happening.
Or when one says 'learning from experience'
Both indicate that body is which experiences but learning is done by
mind. And by using the word 'from' there is an indication of a time
gap between experience and learning.
I feel to experience means to learn. So what one 'learns' is the
experience itself. So may be learning THE experience.
There was also a mention about how theory driven practice is less effective
than practice driven theory.
This the crux of the problem of 'modernity' in which the mind learns
the method and then the body applies it.
This begins at childhood in 'instruction' based societies where
children are told what to do and no scope for letting them 'be'. The
body is not given a chance to engage with the world but constantly
instructed or described through language. The child does not get the
chance to make connection between the WORD and the WORLD autonomously.
unfortunately even in design education the method rules!
The more i observe children the more i feel that the process is
SENSING, FEELING, BEING....................knowledge is incidental.
and also i am beginning to decode their 'play' and their making of
what we call as 'toys'.
