medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear members,
Just around Christmas, I was automatically unsubscribed from the list, because Calvin College's server marked e-mail sent from the list as suspicious and bounced them. As a response, Jiscmail.ac.uk automatically ejected me from the list. I have since re-subscribed, but I think it is in everyone's interest to let you know what happened. Here is the report I received from Calvin IT. Their administrator writes:
"I've investigated the issue and found the cause. One of the threads of emails to the list (subject of FEAST - A Saint for the Day (December 29) ) had a link to a website soria.es, which is classified by our Spam Firewall vendor as a "zero-hour malware site" - a classification that is used to protect users from inadvertent malware downloads. Because this thread had a number of responses (7 total messages), each including the original URL of soria.es, there were a total of 7 messages that were classified as malware/spam and rejected. This happened to be the threshold for the listserv software to classify your email address as problematic and auto-unsubscribe you."
I don't know if anyone else encounteerd this problem, but I think it shows we should be careful in automatically including messages when responding to threads, and be watchful for potential security threats when responding to messages. Who knows: Putin might be listening in to medieval religion!
Happy New Year,

Dear fellow members of the Medieval Religion List,
The recently discovered women's monastic library at Altmünster is at immanent risk. You can read about the situation and sign a petition at the following sites.
