Dear Gunnar,
How do I work this machinery?
The world presents itself to consciousness (hard affordance - this I take
from Gibson); consciousness is intentional, that is, it is bent towards
the world in a pre-conscious way - I see before I recognise what I see
(this I take from phenomenology and brain stuff - Damazio); consciousness
attends to aspects of what pre-consciouness presents to reflective focused
consciousness - I notice the object has a handle-like thing so I pick it
up (this I take from design uses of what things are for = soft affordance).
Don has many excellent accounts of his uses of affordance - all of which
make perfect sense to me.
