Hi everyone,
The annual recruitment drive always brings us a wonderful surge of new members but
naturally some pretty quickly realise it's not for them (thankfully a very much
smaller number!). This seems to happen for two broad reasons: 1) there are just too
many emails; 2) some emails aren't really relevant to the list.
For the latter problem, it's almost always an honest misunderstanding -- the most
regular one being emails about teaching English (i.e. TEFL, TESOL, etc.), rather than
teaching linguistics; rest assured in all those cases I gently inform the member in
question that this isn't quite what we're about, and it doesn't happen again.
If on the other hand you're suffering the first problem, too many emails, there are
two good options that mean you could stay part of this happy family without being
quite so swamped.
1) Set up a 'TeachLing' folder in your email client and set up a new email rule or
filter to send all messages from [log in to unmask] to that folder. Then you
can peruse the list emails at a time that suits you. There are lots of different
email clients and web services out there but if you just search online for '[your
email service] email rule folder' or something like that, you should find useful
guidance.
2) Change your subscription from individual emails to the daily digest. To do that,
just send an email from your registered address to [log in to unmask] (NOT
[log in to unmask]) with nothing in the subject line, and the following in the
body of the email:
SET TEACHLING DIGESTS
Put another way, your email would look like this:
========================================
From: [your registered address]
To: [log in to unmask]
Subject:
SET TEACHLING DIGESTS
========================================
If you're still sick to the back teeth with the lot of us, then you can unsubscribe
altogether by sending the same email but with 'unsubscribe TEACHLING' in the email
body, to the same address.
Hopefully we can keep as many of us in this happy little band of TeachLingers under
my benevolent dominion.
Dotingly yours,
Dave (list admin/overlord)
