Carnegie Mellon University and its School of Design are launching a new
transdisciplinary Design Center that will bring together students and
faculty from across all departments to conduct design-led research with
both industry and non-profit partners. The Center will also offer a range
of design-related micro courses, workshops and symposia to a wide variety
of internal and external audiences. The CMU Design Center will be situated
within the School of Design, one of the world’s top-ranked design programs,
offering degrees at the undergraduate, masters and doctoral levels. Qualified

and budget management and have some experience in teaching at the higher

Applications are open for the Director of Doctoral Studies for The School
of Design at Carnegie Mellon University. This is a senior leadership,
tenure-track faculty position at the Associate or Full Professor level. The
School of Design is a longtime leader in doctoral design education in North
America, and in the fall of 2014 launched an expanded program for doctoral
studies that offers two types of doctoral degrees: a full-time residential
PhD in Transition Design (4 years) and a professional Doctorate of
Design/DDes (3 years). Qualified applicants must have an undergraduate,
masters and PhD in non-architectural, non-engineering areas of design,
experience serving as a primary adviser to PhD students, university-level

The School of Design is looking for a qualified junior faculty member to
teach at the undergraduate and masters levels of the program, team-teach
with colleagues from complementary sub-disciplines, and serve as a thesis
adviser to masters students. The qualified applicants should have an
undergraduate and masters degree and university-level teaching experience
in one of the following areas: Service Design, Communication/Information
Design, Product Design, Interaction/Experience Design,
Sustainable/Ecological Design, Social Innovation, Urban Planning/Design of

The School of Design at Carnegie Mellon University is accepting
applications for a full time teaching track professor at the assistant or
associate level to help develop and deliver short, alternative format
courses within a new university Design Center to students outside the
discipline of design. Course topics might include design thinking,
visualization, and design prototyping but could also include the
formulation of customized modules that would be delivered within a capstone
course in another discipline. Qualified applicants should have an
undergraduate or masters degree in design, 7-10 years teaching and
developing curricula. Applicants with some industry experience will be
