Hello,
Sorry to come late to this, I have been away from work sick. I completely understand why everyone has said not to support XP and for those reasons, I would also say not to. However, if I was put in the position to make that decision, I would first of all run it by the MA's Ethics committee first of all for comment (giving all the reasons why not to support). Why would I do this? Because I feel that it is the correct thing to do. Not to support XP is the right business decision, it is even the right decision to protect other users. However, is it right from an ethical perspective? My ol' mum for example (75 next birthday) still uses XP and lacks confidence and the technical knowledge, as tiny as that is, to change. She is also not confident about having to learn any other OS. I'm sure that she can't be the only person like this. Is it ethical therefore, for the sector to exclude her access? Just a thought and for what it is worth, I think it probably is ethical. However, given ACE's push on the creative case for diversity, which includes older people (my mum), I would certainly get guidance from MA ethics before I made that final decision. Sometimes and thankfully because of the sector we work in, it isn't always about sound business decisions.
Rgds

Subject: Re: [MCG] support for XP?
Hi Mark,
My immediate reaction was, "Do Microsoft even support XP any more?" - this question makes up how we go about our browser/operating systems support policy for the Natural History Museum website. We then combine that with looking at analytics (happy to give more details if it will help at all).
I know you're getting similar answers from others as well but hope that helps!
Thanks
Theo
