Hi Janet,
I don't see any reason why appropriately trained managers couldn't do audiometry along with other safety & health checks.
The issues I foresee are not very different from the issues with technicians:
- adequate equipment
- regular calibration
- proper training to operate
- knowing their limits & when to pass the case to an OH practitioner
- sending the employee to their GP, rather than requesting a review by an OHN/OHP, does not absolve them of their responsibility to act appropriately on the HS results
- employee may not know the particular manager, so must be told that the manager is not a "health professional"
- impartiality - will there be a temptation to fudge results in the employer's favour and to the employee's detriment?
There may be other issues, but that's a start.
