Thanks Alex. It does seem odd, and I know there's some Simitive SPs in the aggregated metadata as that's what I used to "guess" what theirs might be. It's all very odd. To be honest, from my point of view it doesn't make any odds to me if it's via the UK Federation or not but the lack of metadata and asking for my private keys is quite concerning...

James

Hi James

I’m working for the UK federation support team, rather than an organization that uses Simitive’s SP. I can say that Simitive have several SPs registered with the UK federation (the last one was in April this year) but none for Napier so far. It does seem strange that they want to set up a bilateral agreement with you since they’ve gone through the UK federation so far. And it’s obvious that the person you’re dealing with has not understood the use of SAML metadata and the public keys it contains.

Just to be explicit, SAML metadata does not contain private keys.

Regards,

Alex Stuart

UK federation support team

So I asked for some details like an EntityID, ACS endpoints and so on so I could do it manually. They then sent me a shibboleth2.xml file and told me it was their metadata. Clearly this isn’t the case and didn’t contain any of the data I needed. Anyway, we got past that and I manually created a trust on my side with mostly “best guess” efforts (like assuming the AssertionConsumerService endpoints). I then sent them my metadata with public key.

I was under the impression my IdP would encrypt the assertion with their public key which could only be decrypted by their private key. Even just for my own sanity I’m right, right? The vendor is now saying that *my* side of the bargain is holding up the project and I’m in no mood to get the blame for this!
